Frequently Asked Questions

Instrument Login and Network Accounts

Q: My network account has been activated for a specific instrument, but I cannot log in. Whom should I contact?
A: Claire Reardon.

Q: I forgot my network account username or password. Whom should I contact?
A: FAS IT.

Q: When I attempt to log in to a laboratory computer, an error message indicates that my account has been locked out. Why? And what should I do about it?
A: This probably occurred because you attempted to log in with the wrong username and/or password too many times. Please contact FAS IT or Claire Reardon

Q: I am able to log in to an  instrument, but the same username and password doesn’t work on the Calcium scheduling software. Why not?
A: These two systems are completely independent of one another. If you have been authorized to use an instrument or laboratory computer, you will have received two separate accounts with distinct usernames and passwords.

Q: I already have access to some instruments. How do I get access to more instruments?
A: First, you must be trained on each instrument. Once trained, a center staff member will request that your network account have access privileges to the additional instruments.

Card Access to Laboratories

Q: When I swipe my Harvard ID in the card reader, the green LED flashes, but the door handle is still locked. What should I do?
A: After swiping your card, try the handle once, let go, and then try a second time. If this does not work, then contact Jesselynn Opie in NWL room 102.

Q: When I swipe my Harvard ID card in the card reader, the green LED does not flash. Why not?
A: One of a few things may be causing the trouble: Your card’s magnetic strip is damaged or worn, your card has not been activated, or your Harvard ID number has changed. Please contact Claire Reardon. or 617-384-7913.
